Re: [Avid-L2] MC EDL to eQ

Not knowing what eQ is, i do know there (were) issues with XDcam HD and Avid
reading the wrong TC / or getting the wrong inpoint in the clips...
This could be fixed in Avid, but not in eQ, or vice versa.
(it seems that sometimes XDcamHD does not start on an I frame or so, and
that makes some software puke on the stuff on the beginning...)

From my Vulcan side:
I bet you analyzed your EDL and compared it with Avid's timecode on the
clips.
(If the EDL shows the cuts on frame X, and that frame X is the correct one
in eQ, eQ must be terrible stupid, and i don't believe that.
Besides, you would know that it would be eQ to blame not being able to
read...)

To see if this is ineed biting you, do a few tests:

Get a clip that is conforming wrong, and find a unique frame (one sure to be
remembered / found back) in Avid.
See if that clip has the same TC in eQ.
Then, look at the beginning of the file in both Avid and eQ, and see if they
start at the same frame.
(I bet they don't )

Now, get the start TC of the clip, and use my tool to convert the MXF into
QT.
See what my app. thinks the start TC must be.

The demo / beta can be found here:
http://www.videotoolshed.com/product/62/work-in-progress/3

(not much info on the site, but get the demo for Win. Fully functional, but
not intended for commercial work. The Mac download is something completely
different)

My app looks into the MXF to find the TC.

Now also check the XML for the TC. Not hard to decode, but it is written
backwards, and on some frame rates you must subtrack 30 from the frame
counter.

If your trouble indeed lies here, you know what is happening and who to
blame.
I'm sure there is a workaround, but first you need to know what happens
where.
