MC 5.* opens new audio tracks as Stereo by default (new feature). If the bins came from version 4.* or earlier, the audio tracks are mono. The audio won't play if a mono audio clip was dropped in the MC 5.* timeline. You can modify the audio tracks Stereo/Mono in Audio settings.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Clips in Timeline without audio
H guys,
several editors out there have been complaining of the following: when
dropping clip (aud+vid) in the Timeline (5.0.3.x), it initially plays
without the audio. The audio tracks have to be re-inserted for the audio to
play and showup. This happens at random and without an apparent pattern.
Anyone seen this? Any workaround?
Tks
Raj
