MC just records and renders right to the only hard drive in the laptop.
There is a Media Creation setting in the Settings list that allows you
to have it look at the boot drive or for drives that are "rated" for
media. Just uncheck all the boxes and you can probably record to your
boot drive, your thumb drive or anything else you want.
