Production Magazine (yes, there is such a thing.) Not so much going
direct firewire out of the cameras, but going tapeless. It's
definitely the way to go and there are several switchers that can take
Firewire in from cameras and switch digitally.
One of the largest churches in the country uses this method. Willow
Creek (whose parking lot is bigger than O'Hare Airport, I think) does
this to get the Sunday services out to some of their satellite churches.
If you want to chat further about it, I can see if I can dig up the
text of that article.
The computer guy is right, but I wouldn't trust him too much if he
doesn't know video. You should go through a local video reseller or
church production reseller.
