Re: [Avid-L2] Trim/Sync Lock Behaviour In 8.5.3

I believe I've been able to make something like that happen on versions going back at least to 7.

I would need to experiment a bit to confirm but I believe in my case, a "self-screwing, shifting things out of sync despite having sync locks on" is achieved by trimming inner layers of an effect, maybe by double clicking on something that is an effect so that the nested layer is revealed and then trimming that upper track.

Extending the upper layer source beyond the edge of the effect adds time to the effect/clip, shifting video on that track down but without dragging other layers with it so that video track is now out of sync.

I don't think it happens if you step into the effect to do the trimming instead of double-clicking.

Again I would need to confirm the above.

I have experienced this on rare occasions - yes it is a nuisance.

Is this really out-of-sync (audio and video from same clip out) or the stuff that the sync locks normally prevent such as non-related items down the timeline slipping?

For me it is the latter - title builds of multiple layers where one layer gets knocked out of sync.  Haven’t figured it out yet (as it has only happened a few times since January or so).

Subject: [Avid-L2] Trim/Sync Lock Behaviour In 8.5.3

Afternoon All,

I’ve been working on MC8.5.3 on a PC at an edit facility for the past couple of weeks, and I’m noticing some unusual and time-costly behaviour where my video and audio on the timeline are slipping out of line with one another, regardless of what my sync lock buttons are doing on the timeline.

I’m not sure what it is that’s causing it to happen when I’m cutting, but I think it’s probably to do with me slipping tracks in the trim tool - it’s usually about five or ten minutes after I’ve been doing something in there that I notice that the rest of the timeline’s slipped out of sync.

Anyone had any experience of this - it’s really frustrating.

Best wishes,
Christopher
