For the Baselight wanna be users could you elaborate on what the , "extract decompression/compression cycle" is. From your post this sounds like something that only happens on a full Baselight system. Is this something that changes image quality, speed or rendering or both?

Yes, you can transfer a grade from full Baselight to Baselight for Avid - you can simply export an updated AAF which contains instances of Baselight of Avid. That will give you exactly the same result as you would have got if you had rendered from Baselight, apart from the extract decompression/compression cycle.
A number of shows (e.g. Coronation St) are using this workflow now, as it allows you tweak the grade in the Avid, if required.
