Most of the iPad/iPhone slate apps are silly toys that just increase the chance of your iOS device getting dropped and damaged. But two that I use:
MovieSlate
The stand-alone version isn't so helpful as a TC clapper since iThings have clocks crappier than REDs and DSLRs. But the developers continue to engage soundies and use their/our feedback to improve the app. They're working with Denecke and others to integrate their software with standard timecode tools. All good. I use the Sound Dept plugin…for cart/interview work, it's a nice way to gather metadata and produce sound reports. Less useful when running around, ime. I haven't used their Multicam plugin, but based on what else the developers are doing, it very well might be useful.

BloopBox
$2, just a bloop slate with minimal/necessary settings. Can easily display big scene & take numbers. Works with iPhone/iPad in Airplane Mode (ie- not receiving phone calls and spitting out RF). No pretensions to being a TC slate. I've used it on some double-system doc shoots where we thought a physical slate would freak out the people we were following. Check out the 80-second demo video:

If there are other decent iOS slate apps, I'd be happy to know about them.
