[Avid-L2] RE: Avid Customer Association?

Pat -

Yes, of course Avid would never EOL a product out of the blue, right DS users/purchasers?  No one was burned there, right Tony?  And who would really care if Adobe dropped the price of the CC package to FCPX prices?  Better for us!

I simply don't understand what Avid is trying to accomplish here, other than a quick cash grab at the end of the year.  Why would you charge your loyal customer base to listen to their ideas?  Why should large facilities have to pay to hear what Avid is planning versus Avid going to THEM and asking what they need? Say your facility decides to send you to these meetings.  Do you think they can tell you any more than they can speak about now and staying within financial rules?  If 5,000 editors make the dubious decision to

join the ACA, will there be 5,000 NDA's to be signed?  What good will it do for the vast majority of one man and small shop editors, corporate editors, educational institutions, etc. to go hear a bunch of big post house suits yammer on?  Don't you think it should be the other way around? I harken back to the early days of Softimage|DS where the company actively reached out to users, flew a bunch of us to Montreal, picked our brains, gave us the ideas for the future, had us talking to the developers and engineers about the product, and finally had us sit in front of a room full of marketers and resellers to answer their questions about our use and perception of the product. That feels like the way it should be done, to me anyway.  And I didn't spend a dime to join a club.  The revenue was in the better product, not being charged for ones thoughts or to hear the thoughts of the company.

It all feels like half-baked, ill-conceived marketing on the usual Avid scale...and then the finance guys trying to pin some revenue to it. I hope I am wrong.

Tell you what, since you are a moderator on the Avid Forums, can you go upstream into Avid and get some facts for  us?  Quite honestly, I hope Marianna stays far away from this and keeps doing what she is doing now.  She is too good to be stained (potentially) from this thing.  Again, I hope I am wrong, but the deafening silence from Avid on this tells me they are busy crafting the rest of the story.

MHO, of course.
