Re: [Avid-L2] IMX files with 4 audio tracks

It's all bandwidth, probably.

Ah I have the answer..

So if you export 16bit audio you get 8 audio tracks and if you export 24bit audio then you only get 4 audio tracks!

Kind of makes sense but the 16/24 selection is deciding the number of tracks!

Using File > Export XDCAM OP1a in a SD project and selecting an IMX codec will create an OP1a MXF file with 4 channels of audio.
But, did  you try my solution?
For a lot of workflows it might be the easiest, cheapest, fastest way.

Yes definitely OP1A MXF files…
Even if you have a sequence with only 2 audio tracks when you export as XDCAM  it puts 8 audios in there even though they are silent..

Here's the real question. Are you sure they want MXF? I have clients who want IMX with 4 channels and they all want QuickTime MOV files with that spec. I've never seen someone asking for XDCAM MXF with only 4 channels.

Mixdown to four tracks of audio.  Select video and only those four audio tracks.  Export.  Even in stereo mode it should export four channels.

Nope.
Quicktime is a very handy format to change attributes in a destructive way. Other formats are way more difficult in that aspect.
(The destructive part is what makes QTchange so popular, it's fast...)
MXF is a tricky one. Lots of flavours, and most of the time high compatibility issues.
So i sometimes do custom work on MXF, but it's hard to satisfy every possible target.
(Especially if people start brining in Baton stuff.)

Will qt change open mxf?
I love qtchange I recently had hours of natural history rushes where the director was talking to himself in pretty bad language - stay there eat now oh for &&&$& sake you @@&@&( and so on.
Good laugh during edit until client requested a copy of the rushes! Qtchange delete audio done.

Depending on compatibility issues, you could use FFmbc to copy video / first 4 audio and rewrap it in a new MXF file.
Or, if you want to spend money, Episode or something might be able to do it.

HI there,
We have a client that wants XDCAM delivery with only 4 audio tracks. How would we do this? We can't  export .MXF files other than XDCAM and we can't chose the number of audio tracks… What could we use?
Thanks
NIge
