[Avid-L2] Re: Last Chance - XDV $ XPRO to MC Promo - get 6.5 and 7 for $499

You're probably right. My dongle is from 2002, but looking at old e-mails from Avid, I see that it was last updated in October of 2007. (I just read through my archived e-mails related to dongle update issues. It's starting to come back to me, like a dream.)

So I went straight to the shelf with my Xpress DV and Xpress Pro Avid boxes. I was positive that's where I put the dongle. I found all the books, installer DVDs and documentation. I found DVD backups of every Avid-related software download. I found the little bubble-wrap pouch that the dongle came in. I found the plastic card with SN# and ID that used to be attached to the dongle. But no dongle. I scanned the shelf with a flashlight for a glint of purple hiding in the corner. No dice.

Hmmm. I must have stored it in a super important place where it couldn't ever be lost.

When I die and my kids are cleaning out my crap, it'll turn up (underneath the Newton). For now, I guess I'll go the deactivation route when necessary, as suggested by Michael H.

Thanks. Take care -- Mark

I would think your old system had a dongle which should be updateable although there was some talk that some dongles are just to old. Or that might have been something my wife told me. I think it was mentioned in a recent thread though.
