Thanks for the thoughts but I'm testing on 2 different systems, one at MC 5.5 the other at MC 6.01. The files have been copied to the arrays for each system, so I don't think it's a drive issue.

I tried the Consolidate and the Transcode just as a test to see if the times were going to be substantially different and they weren't.

However, since I posted the initial question I've done some more testing with interesting results.

On the system with MC 5.5 I did a video mixdown of the AMA'd file, made a new sequence using this mixdown, then exported that from the MC using SAS. Which resulted in a DnX175 file.

I then AMA'd this new export into the MC, started a consolidate and it was done in an hour.

Comparing the 2 DnX 175 files in VideoSpec and imediaHD reveals no discernible difference. The only real difference is one came from an Avid DS(8 hour consolidate) and one came from an Avid MC(1 hour consolidate).

Is there a difference in exporting DnX from a DS vs MC?

I would think doing a 'Fast Import' or AMA/Consolidate would be the best
options here.

You shouldn't need to transcode unless you don't want it at 175.

For Fast Import: set Import Options to 601/709. For AMA/Consolidate, you
shouldn't have to set anything. Just Link to AMA file, right-click,
Consolidate.

Both of these options should result in the same thing: a rewrap from the
MOV to Avid MXF. So it should not take much longer than a straight file
copy.

If it is taking longer than normal, perhaps there's a slow disk in the way.
If you try a straight copy from the source to the destination, is it still
as slow?
