The ProTools users rate it pretty highly. I was impressed when trying it out with Reaper, haven't managed to try out the full version with a proper Avid setup yet
Here's a few thoughts I had whilst trying the app out with MC v6.0.3 on a macbookpro:
Audio names in Neyrinck are restricted to A1, A2 etc (match audio mixer, rather than any timeline renaming) - avid limitation I suspect.
Surround tracks appear as hard panned left. Some stereo tracks appear as off-centre panning, but actually are centred.
User manual unclear on Command8 settings (e.g. first example on page 66 does not match others).
Right and Bottom of Screen controls largely missing from free edition (assume that is limitation of free edition). I only get play backwards, play forwards, play and record at bottom of screen.
Avid Audio Mixer set to clip mode:
Adjusting level during playback - audio mixer fader adjusts immediately but adjustment in output level lags by 4 secs.
Clip volume indicator on timeline does not update (shows previous level). Must be an avid issue as forcing a redraw (e.g. zoom in/out on timeline or marking the clip) shows correct level.
Avid audio Mixer set to auto:
Timeline parked - level adjusted - keyframe added and adjusted. (Makes sense)
Timeline played (with no keyframes on clip) - level adjusted - output levels adjust accordingly, avid audio mixer shows adjustment during that playback, but no keyframes show. Playback again across that section - level is adjusted to final level set (e.g. silence) but avid mixer, neyrinck and timeline key framing all report unity. Toggling avid audio mixer to 'clip' mode then back to 'auto' mode does not fix. Toggle to 'live' mode, playing the clip, then back to 'auto' mode restores playback to level consistent with (lack of) keyframes. Makes me think this is an Avid issue. (And I wanted them to get rid of the 'live' mode, which I've previously found no use for.)
Automation enabled
doesn't seem to make any difference. Only way to record keyframes is using the record function in the Avid mixer when in 'auto' mode. I suspect this is an Avid limitation - it is missing read/write/touch/latch functionality.
I'm not sure what the A 'automate' button is for. The only way to get key framing to stick seems to be hitting 'record' in automation gain mode on the Avid.
I've only tried out the 'free' version, so it may be a limitation of that.
Similarly using the commands is limited in the other 'free' versions, so I suspect it is for MC too. It's a cheap app for what it does - I'm going to buy it as soon as I figure out how to get it to work on a PC without leaving a trail...
