eventhough you tried auto and forced to hdv(which are actually playback settings), it is possible for the camera FW output to be set to DV/downconvert.
Create a dumb NTSC project and see if you can capture that way, if yes then my assumption is correct, and you need to change the menu setting that controls the DV out.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Problems to capture HDV to MC6

I am trying to set up for the edit of P2 video from an HVX200 (1080 30p),
ACVHD from a Hero GoPro (1080 30p) and HDV from a Sony HVR-A1U (1080 60i). MC
6.0 project settings on a PC are 1080p/29.97 1920x1080. I used AMA to link to
the P2 video. I imported the Hero Cam video (took 3 or 4 hours for 20
minutes). All seemed well with video playing well in the Source window until
I closed MC and reopened. Now, for both video types the Source window reads,
"No compressed data format found for specified VCID and video format." If
I try to play, it reads, "Exception: DesktopSFConsumer. EarlyPreSync error
PreLoading spring buffer". If I change the Format to 1080i/59.94 1920x1080,
all video reappears and plays fine. I've not seen this behavior before.
Then I tried to capture HDV. I cannot capture to Project settings of 1080 30p
using Firewire (no surprise). With Format set to 1080/59.94i, the error is
"Exception: An error has occurred while capturing". Again, no surprise.
With Format set to 1080i/59.94 and Raster 1440x1080, it should work. While MC
controls the camera to play and pause, when I click on V or A1/A2, it reports
"No input signal present". The camera is set to "Auto" for HDV/DV;
changing to HDV does not help. I've tried Autoconfigure from Generic Device
and Sony HVR Z1U (A1U is not an option). I've tried disconnecting the
Firewire storage drives. But still "No input signal present". What can I
try next? I've searched for this problem and found others with similar
problems but did not see solutions. Any help will be appreciated. David.
