Guys,
Well here we go again. I have escalated this Red rocket issue with Avid and have run tests for hours on end.
I am still none the wiser and Avid's response has been to just pretend this issue doesn't exist. Also, I am reminded by them all the time to
read the documentation and make sure full debayer is set in Media Creation!!
They also state you need a certain version of Driver and Firmware for the card to be recognised by Avid Media composer.
I have done everything as required and much more.
If you check the Avid console it will show the Red Rocket card and say it's active but it does nothing to speed up the process.
So yes it is "seen" in Media Composer. If you try and open RedCine-X at the same time it even states that the Rocket is in
use by another application. So Avid "sees" it but doesn't use it !!!J
I have tried Media composer 5.0.3. I have applied the editor patches 1 by 1 all the way up to 9. Used all versions of RED firmware and drivers.
I have also tried version 5.0.4 and 5.0.4.1. which has a really nice bug were timecodes are zeroed when you AMA to canon but I guess
that's for another mail. 64bit kernel or 32 bit kernel on OSX no joy.
I have also tried 5.5 and all newer flavours of it. Guess what, nothing works for the rocket. I gave up.
So I am still using RedCine-X and it works perfectly but it adds an unwanted step to my process.
I just wish Avid would stop pretending it is supported and works ! Am I missing something???
Unless there is someone on this list using it all the time and getting RED CINE-X speeds on transcode??
If there is please share your MC version/osx build/driver and firmware versions.
I don't think i'll hold my breath though.
Time for a coffee

Current MC implementation uses the RED Rocket card for transcoding only. No display/output.
And MediaCreationSettings need to be set to Full Debayer. Otherwise it ignores the rocket card and uses the CPU.

the workflow for RedCine-X Pro is simple enough, and that's working, so this isn't an 'emergency,' but I can't get Media Composer to use the Red Rocket card directly - Is there a switch or trick somewhere for that? In this case, a Mac running MC 5.5.3. The CPU is seeing the Rocket Card - RCX on the same machine works great - but media composer's not seeing it.
