More of acknowledgement that FCP/CS5 are really players. I mean, just you saying Avid is a "compelling compliment" to FCP is a huge statement. Using FCP systems to increase marketshare of Avid as a "compliment". There is the "white flag", in a way.
Avid has ignored that fact for so very long and carried on in a way with customers that it was "Avid or the highway". Finally Avid is realizing that there are other players out there and "professional" editors use other systems.
I see it as a good move to potentially latch on to a larger user base and raise some cash. As I said, I don't see a lot of FCP folks switching over (throw Phrase Find in, and maybe....love that feature), but certainly $999 is a nice price to have both products on one system....except for those PC folk.

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
