[Avid-L2] Re: Avid DVD by Sonic failure

Karl,

I am away from my system at the moment but used MC4 with version 5 of Sqeeze.
Not sure I know the difference between elementary or program MPEG2 files. I
used the Squeeze template for large SD DVD files. It created files with mp2
extensions and separate audio files. They imported into Avid DVD without
problem and the DVD rendering to a folder was quick (as compared to importing
QuickTime movie files). David.

More proof that it's a new and better Avid.

or that the race to the bottom is complete and now there is even less
to distinguish the products, good and bad. Perhaps this is "step one" in
consolidating the products? Just a thought on a rainy morning...

Indeed, a more reasonable, communicative company. First time I raised
the issue, it was set in stone and that was that. Subsequent discussion by
users has lead to active forces in the company reconsidering their strategy
based on the arguments raised in those discussions.

Of course, the underlying issue (lack of development for Symphony) still has
to be addressed.

true...I was kidding about the race to the bottom. But, now what if MC
users start saying "hey, we pay for the same upgrade and Symphony has that
color corrector advantage"...It is possible to set a bad precedent here.
There certainly is middle ground. Job is correct. Symphony must be shown to
have powerful distinct advantages over MC and comparable to other higher-end
products to justify it's existence and price premium.

Are you sure that the Adrenaline won't work in a 1080p project?

I am using one here.

David,

Out of curiosity did you create elementary or program MPEG2 files?

If they were program, did you notice any truncation of the end of the video
track when you viewed the files on the Avid DVD timeline?

Also, which version of Squeeze are you using?

Thanks in advance. I've been dealing with a variety of Squeeze anomalies and
this info will be helpful.

I've never tried Avid with an IO Express, but the words "Adrenaline",

the IO Express attaches to PCIe (like the DX boxes), I would expect it

to perform similarly to a Mojo DX.

We never upgraded to the HD cards. The Adrenalines were too problematic to

consider investing more in them. Instead, we switched 7 seats to FCP which

brought along it's own issues.

Does anyone recommend best practices for reformatting 1080 24P 16:9 to
1.85:1 SD NTSC? I'm using Symphony 4.0.
