This is all true and it gets down to editor experience. And whether or not you are a "power user" of the system. Many excellent storytelling editors aren't.

My largest FCP job to date has been about 200 hours on a project started over 4 years ago and one that I recently had to dive back into for revisions. I was juggling about 14TB of combined offline and online-quality media as well as new footage. In various SD and HD formats.

No real FCP problems, but plenty of organizational issues to tackle. Of course, FCP version migration and OS changes on top of it. And yes, there were a few FCP quirks caused by Media Manager. Nevertheless, it can be done.
