IMHO XDCAM's MPEG-2 codec definitely needs to be updated to a SR esque MP4
codec. I feel file based and hardware based workflows will live side by side
for years to come much like film and tape. It does make sense for the EX-3
style cameras to be card based do to data thru-put requirements and size.
However when it comes to professional cameras like the PDW-355, 700, 800 or
Panasonic's 3000 P2 line it's nice to have a choice of which way you can go.
Systems will fail and data will be lost. It's up to you what workflow path
it will happen least and works for you.
