The Problem:
When cutting a project with hundreds of still photos, MC's Bin Frame View cannot enlarge them enough to easily organize them sequentially so they can be Alt-Dragged onto the timeline in order to automatically create a sequence.
The Solution:
A free PC application called IrfanView has a function called Thumbnails (File > Thumbnails); which will display stills at any size (Options > Set Thumbnail Options); which will allow stills to be re-ordered using standard drag and drop techniques; and which will allow batch re-naming of the photos by adding a new number prefix -- while still retaining the DSLR image number (which is essential when using a Pan & Zoom effect to reference the original external high resolution file).
After changing the photo order in Infran with drag and drop -- simply Select All and then (File > Start Batch Dialog With Selected Files). In the Batch Rename settings -- I use the following Name Pattern "### $N" (without the quotes) -- which adds a new number to the beginning of the original file name.
Then I import the stills into a MC bin at the current project resolution -- sorting the shots by name replicates the shot order established in Irfan. Select All in the bin and ALT-Drag them to the timeline (these will serve as the timeline placeholders). Then I go through the (laborious) process of referencing the original external high resolution DSLR images in Pan & Zoom (BCC, StageTools, Avid) using the retained DSLR image name in the placeholder slug.
