For those scoring at home I got New Blue 5 to work for my simple needs. I did however crash a lot. Usually the crash would happen when opening the interface from the effects editor window.
I simplified the credit sequence to remove any extraneous lower tracks with other title effects but it still crashed. Sometimes I could get 5 titles done before a crash but mostly it was a crash every other title. This was not in promoting but opening the already promoted titles and tweaking the size and other parameters and adding fade ins and fade outs using opacity keyframes. I didn't get an exact sequence of events but it seemed if I left effects mode between titles and maybe jumped into color correction mode briefly it seemed to crash less but that may have just been coincidence. The update note on the latest New Blue said it helped with some type of crashing but my experience doesn't seem to mimic that.
I'm on a MacPro mid 2010 upgraded to 12Core 3.33GHz, ATI Radeon 5770 1024MB 24 Gig Ram OS 10.12.6 MC 2018.12.
All these issues on a simple card based credit sequence is troubling.
I realize the Cheese grater is no longer on the approved list but a lot of people are still running them. I have no idea if my crash problems are tied to the Cheese Grater or just in general.
I'm about to do a real series like I normally do in HD but in 4K and I'm really hoping Avid gets their titler+ to at least be basically functional. As it stands now I can't fathom using it.

For most of my series work the offline title tool over a graphic backplate works just fine. Whatever minor tweaks I might have can usually be saved as a style preset that is easily applied. In that workflow it really does save time but in those cases offline is using the same tool.
I really don't understand why if they could port title tool from SD to HD they can't go beyond. Of course I see the can of worms with all the different aspect ratios to consider but it's the devil I know so I can be more proactive dealing with those quirks.
I am seeing more After Effects templates that we get from the graphics designer and then tailor the specific lwr 3rds using the template. It may the way we have to migrate more and more.

Honestly, I switched to After Effects for all but slates long ago. I don't know how anyone does it with any NLE titlers. Its an exercise in frustration, even with four to choose from. Whatever time you save staying in the application, is lost with stuff like this anyway.
Found the Transform sliders under Global. I still can't find the fade in effect I remember so I'm just keyframing opacity. I can't express the joy this all is.

So I did the update because it mentioned fixes to crashing. Now I'm in New Blue 5 and the interface is rather different.I got to the main tools my simple needs require but I no longer see the positioning slide bars I had been use to. I see offsets in 3D face but that doesn't work. I know how to center to screen and before I updated I would then just enter a parameter of 50 to move the text box to the right. I can't seem to find those overall transform sliders in the newer version. I have no depth in this interface and barely got by on the pre updated version. Where did my sliders go? It just doesn't seem like the offset parameters in 3D face are what I'm looking for. Also where did the fade in effect go? Is it in transitions or library. The whole versioning thing in New Blue seems a bit unintuitive but I'm a rookie in this interface so it must be me.
