But it's me the middle guy that is having to jump through hoops for differing assets between QC and IMF creation. I'm not saying that's wrong but it is really inefficient and seems a waste of bandwidth.
Here in a nutshell is what doesn't make sense to me. I'm told that Clipster can in fact make an IMF from a QT file. I have a sequence that is DNxHRHQX video essence. I'm told that more than likely if the Clipster system has the Avid LE codecs installed it will be able to make an IMF from a QT DNxHRHQX. Now it that's not the case then certainly the ProResHQ version I have made should work. This is all contingent on the fact that I'm told that Clipster can in fact make an IMF from a QT .mov. If this is wrong someone please correct me.
Given the above I see no reason why I should be required to deliver a .dpx asset to be used for the creation of the final IMF. Given my footage was Panny AVC Intra 422 10 bit transcoding it to Avid DNxHRHQX shouldn't effect the image quality in any meaningful way right?
So if I have basically camera raw quality material in the Avid DNxHRHQX video essence exporting that to .dpx isn't going to add any quality. To me that means if Clipster can in fact make an IMF from a QT, be it ProRes or Avid DNxHR, then where is there a benefit to delivering as .dpx?
I'm not trying to be right here I'm trying to understand what logic there is in creating a lengthy export process to an unwieldy 5TB dpx file for what seems to be no gain in image quality. There in lies the rub I'm trying to figure out.

What is the point of making a different format file for QC?
The QC should be on the delivery file.
At worst you'd QC an intermediate file but then you still have to QC the final file.
If the facility doesn't understand that then I'd find one that does.
