It hasn't. I was ready to jump to PC, as most of my freelance work is on PC and I am comfortable with it. The Z series still ended up costing as much or more than a Mac. I ended up buying a cheap used 8 core 2009 and self upgrading it to a Westmere 12 core for less than a grand. Performance very close to a trash can Mac Pro and I could put in a CUDA card for Premiere. This is my "home system". Might not have rolled the dice on that upgrade project like that if I were truly running a business on it.

The software is $300 for FCPX and if you add a bunch of extra apps and plug-ins you *might* drive that up to just under $2K. Most of these are through the Mac App Store, so it's a one-time expense for as many machines as you personally own (companies are one license per machine).Premiere standalone would be $20/month forever. Although most folks probably get a full CC license, since they usually also want at least After Effects and Photoshop. And yes, Adobe sells as individual, team and enterprise plans.
