You're confusing production and post with distribution.
Two different worlds. You will never see the difference between 444 vs 422 vs 420 on air. In color correction yes, in effects production yes, over satellite with 3Mbps for bandwidth, no.
The data rate we run on our sat trucks is incredibly low. The portable Dejero's we use sometimes run down to 2Mbps!
We could shoot 422 50 on our Sony 700's but record time is halved, ingest time is longer and rendering will take longer.
Dennis is right. With the shear amount of material handled everyday by a network or at KTLA a gig here or there adds up quickly.
