One of the problems is that Premiere Pro seems to truncate the Reel Number/Tape Name to 8 characters. I believe this is a hold over of the CMX 3600 limitation. The EDL I made has the truncation from the middle of the Reel Number leaving the first 4 characters and the last 4 characters. I'd rather have it truncate the end characters, which is an option in EDL manager. Given the EDL viewed in Text Edit right out of Premiere Pro only has those 8 characters for Reel numbers I don't know if this can be resolved. I can't get on to the Premiere Pro system right now but I'm curious is there any option in EDL export in Premiere to choose a newer edl template like CMX Transfer or some of the others listed as 16 or 32 that I believe will support more characters in the Reel number/Tape name?
After getting the edl into Avid I found that I would get the exception: PMM_INSUFFICIENT _MEDIA error message. I found one offending clip and that error went away.
