Open the Motion Effect Editor and hit Promote?

Basic 23.98 Alexa footage transcoded to DNxHD 115. The clip has Source Settings FrameFlex and Color Adaptors on it. SO I drop a Timewarp motion effect on the clip to speed it up a tad, but when I try to open the Effects Editor it will never "see" the Timewarp effect, only the Frame Flex and Color Adaptor. No matter where you put the playhead, no matter if you remove, say, the Color Adaptor, you can still never "get to" the Timeworn effect.
What's up with this? As well, trying to step in and nest the effect doesn't work either. Why? Because MC won't reveal the nesting track at all! Like Radioactive Man's protective eyewear, the goggles do nothing! The up and down arrow buttons (for example) simply don't respond. Double clicking on the clip does nothing.
So how do I edit Time warp effect on a clip that won't open an Effect Editor for Timewarp? I mean, the friggin' Timewarp effect icon is there, on the clip! Is this a known bug? If so, are there any known workarounds?
