Re: [Avid-L2] ProRes Export ability with Avid 6.0.5 and 6.0.3?

Okay then I'm wondering why my sndx 6.0.5 can export ProRes and the other can't.  My station does have Adobe CS 5 installed.  Could that have installed the ProRes codecs?  I also see when doing a spotlight search for final cut there is Final Cut Pro Trial listed.  Perhaps someone installed and FCP trial and that installed the codecs?  Perhaps the trial has expired but the codecs live on?

Final Cut Pro 7 installed the codecs.

QuickTime *Player* "Pro" does exactly two things: enables editing and export functions in the player, and allows you to save from the browser plug-in. QuickTime Player "Pro" has never added new codecs. or done anything for the 20,000 plus other QT-based applications.

If I ever find the person at Apple that was responsible for that confusion, they are due one size 7 boot in an uncomfortable place because it's caused so much confusion. I expect I've spent a year of my life explaining it to people! :)

Traditionally I remember it helped to have FCP installed on an Avid computer because it would install ProRes codecs that could then be used to export to ProRes from Avid.  We have two stations of Avid on Mac Pros.  I'm version 6.0.5 and have QT7 Pro installed.  The identical computer running SNDX 6.0.3 does not have QT Pro installed and there is no choice to export to ProRes.  I'm thinking the missing link is QT Pro.  I'm fuzzy but I assume QT Pro will install all the advanced ProRes codecs Avid needs to export to ProRes.  I know installing FCP 7 etc... would automatically install or upgrade QT 7 to QT Pro.  Am I remembering this correctly?

There is a fundamental difference to Avid's ability to natively handle ProRes in Avid and Avid's ability to export to ProRes right?
