Re: [Avid-L2] Media Composer 8.3.1 Pan and Zoom plus Effects functionality?

I've just confirmed that another member of the family sees this same difference in 8.3.0.  I just booted up my laptop Symphony 6.5.3 and it works like I've always used it.  Drop a paint effect on and draw a solid square then draw a solid circle the two can overlap or not.  Touch somewhere else in the screen and nothing is selected.  Hit apple(cmd) +A and both objects are selected.  Then I can hit the "a" or "s" button and the one object or the other highlights.  This is invaluable to me because I inherit paint effects with multiple objects, some that overlap, some that are hidden by other etc....  The only practical way to quickly to deconstruct an effect like this has always been to CmD+A then "a" or "s" my way through all the objects thereby seeing their, shape, position and mode.  Think of when people draw a box bigger than the raster to say darken and then draw an almost identical shaped box that does some other lightening thing or color tinting and then they key frame different parameters to make something magical and poofty.  With the two shape being so close in size to each other it's hard to choose one or that other.  That's where the "a" and "s" keystrokes are invaluable.  Now think of that with somebody building 10 different blurs and highlights that are tracking movement in the frame and cross over each other.  In 8.3 or 8.3.1 how do you quickly toggle between the objects?  Moving objects to the background is separate from this.  I first just want to quickly assertain all the objects and modes that are in a paint effect.  I imagine other effects like animatte may also have lost this functionality.  Somebody set me straight this is something I do all the time.

Well the Pan and Zoom is now working.  It turned out to be what I had speculated.  They had created new rotated and cropped versions of the still but I was given the original still by mistake.  Oh well live an learn and at least I'm not looking at a Clean Install yet.

Now I am really annoyed at not being able to select all the objects in a paint effect using "CMD+A" and also once I select everything by dragging over the entire raster I can't jump from on object to the next using "A" and or "S" keys.  That was my quick way to select an object that was buried under another object and the top object had priority a.k.a moved to the foreground.  I never found this aspect of paint effect and other Avid effects intuitive and I've never found a way to asses the foreground background priority of objects other than the ability to click on the.  Moving things out of the way to get to a buried object is really messy and asking for trouble on complicated effect.  I've tried a new user and it acts the same way.  I also built a new effect with simple overlapping objects but Cmd_A didn't select them all.  Can anyone else confirm or deny my findings?

Upon closer inspection and contact with the offline editor I discovered that the moves were being done with a reformat on an upper track and he was just using Pan and Zoom to bring the still in at a higher res.  Why he didn't just build the move in Pan and Zoom is beyond me.  The other thing that is happening is all the stills I'm having issue with are Rotated 90 degrees CW and CCW on the original stills.  What appears in the offline reference as a portrait landscape shot is coming in as a sideways image that looks like a Cell Phone video shot portrait style not landscape.  This leads me to believe somebody in offline Pre Rotated and Cropped the stills and resaved them somewhere else and I didn't get those pretreated still.  With no rotation in Pan and Zoom I don't see how they got the sideways stills to appear landscape in Pan and Zoom.  I've asked offline for the pretreated stills and hopefully that will resolve this issue.  Between this and an illegal character in the stills folder name from offline I've been chasing my tail.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Media Composer 8.3.1 Pan and Zoom plus Effects functionality?

I did a list search for 8.3 and pan and zoom and didn't come up with anything related to my issue.  I have an offline sequence that I believe was offlined on Avid 7, I've got an email into the offline editor to confirm this.  In the mean time I see the pan and zoom effect in the timeline but when I import the image the move seems to be missing.  I remember going form ver. 5.5 to Ver 6 there were compatibility issue due to the lack of a 64 bit quicktime engine for windows.  Is there now some more compatibility issue with pan and zoom and earlier versions of Avid?

Second observation is I can't go into a paint effect and use "cmd+A" to select all the objects in the paint effect.  To work on a paint effect from offline I usually shrink the effect window so I can see outside the raster.  Then I tap in select mode outside the raster.  Once I've done that I can hit "cmd+A" and all the objects in the paint effect will be selected.  I can then us the "A" and "S" keys to toggle between the selected objects one at a time.  I can't seem to make this work in 8.3.1.  The only way I can select the objects is to drag across the entire screen.  This is a pain because I may bump one of the object in the process and even after selecting the objects  this way the "A" and "S" don't seem to toggle between the selected object.  This a real pain when they drew a box around the entire frame and then an oval erase inside the raster.  If the bigger box is the top object I can't find a way to select the smaller underneath oval without moving the big box out of the way.  With multi keyframed effects this is really unworkable.  Is there a new approach in 8.3.1?  I feel crippled by this interface change.  What am I missing here?
