Re: [Avid-L2] os x metal ?

As a flame artist let me just say autodesks use of gpu is very 90's - zero cuda and totally focussed on open gl and overlay mode on quadro cards. They are the kings of open gl and get tremendous speeds but I think everyone wants resolve style multiple gpu cuda eating performance on every edit system.

It's unlikely they will invest much effort in metal given that their flagship product flame runs in red hat Linux.

I was hoping it was possible because of this:

"Apple also announced that it is working with other software companies such as The Foundry and AutoDesk to implement the Metal API. Like previous iterations of OSX, El Capitan will be a free upgrade and will likely be released to the public in Fall of 2015."

I would say not much, unless Avid starts using something like the Mercury Engine.  To this point, Avid's use of the GPU has not been terribly great compared with Adobe Premiere and Apple FCPX.
Would love to be wrong about this.
