Thanks, WIlson!
Last night the screen on my early 2011 MBP started acting flakey while editing... sign of upcoming death for that series of laptop. Just ordered the ebay M4600 as a backup/replacement!

Here's what you need: Dell Precision M4600; quad-core Intel i7 (w. hyperthreading) at 2.3gHz, 16GB RAM, Quadro 1000 w. 2GB, 1920x1080 display, 1 eSATA port, 2 USB3 & 2 USB2 ports. This machine is on the latest Avid "qualified hardware" list of March 2015. Buy it used on eBay, manufacturer-refurbished, for $625 including the 250GB SSD option:
This is the exact configuration of my personal "carry-around-Avid" machine, and it rocks! I challenge you to find a better bang for your buck in a currently-qualified Avid machine.

So my faithful old HP laptop has finally bit the dust, and I need to make an unplanned purchase. Blown graphics chip, not worth fixing.
We haven't has this thread for a little while. What are people using for editing on the road or at home? I'm going to throw gasoline right out of the gate and say that as much as I would like it, a MBPS is out of reach. This is an unplanned purchase and my primary client is Windows based.
I've had good luck with HP and my client loves his Asus gaming laptop for on the road editing although it is huge and very heavy.
