I think you have indeed gotten the 'common pricing'. I was just quoted $1,900 for the 4TB version.

But, I'm hoping for with that kind of mark up, we get drives that have been 'broken in' for a while, compared to the ones that come straight from the factory that sometimes die after a few days/hours.

Is that common pricing for these drives? I wasn't expecting $79, but I wasn't expecting $900 either.
I know about cost of business, professional grade, a fraction of what we paid for the system, my media depends on it... etc... 
But what's the justification for a 1Tb drive costing $900? I can't believe the carrier is the cause for it. Actually, I should be able to reuse the carrier of the drive I'm replacing, right?
