Well to not notice editing is like not acknowledging a DP lit it. It's an accepted convention that is incorporated into our viewing experience.
I love it when editing, lighting, camera and music pull it all together. I know this is dated but one of my favorite motion picture sequences is the snow battle scene from Empire Strikes Back and the Kirk meets Kahn scene in ST:Wrath of Kahn. They both just pull it all togethor seamlessly. The original RoboCop and the destruction scene of "The Tree of Life" in Avatar
is a favorite too. Benjamin Button is another favorite of mine.
