Re: [Avid-L2] Halp! re: Script Sync Limitation

#1 won't work.  #2 will.

What about my suggestion?  Do an audio mix down. Auto sync to that. Then with the script synced match the group to the synced script.

Hmmmm . . . . my brain is trying to wrap around that idea….

1. Her clips are already Grouped. Am I remembering correctly that the editor can swap out a SS clip with another one? Is that what you mean by "match the group to the synced script"? If so, then I get it: SS to the mixdown, then swap it for the multitrack group clip.

2. Along the same lines of your good idea: If they were _not_ already Grouped, the editor would simply make the mixdown as one of the clips in the Group (that is if it'll let you group a clip without video), making sure that the mixdown is within tracks A1 - A8.

Am I gettin' what you're puttin' down, Steve? ;)

Thanks John.
But Steve's correct.
Right now there are more than 8 audio tracks in the Group Clip, and the
ScriptSync dialog window only has checkboxes for selecting 1 thru 8 :(

I don't recall any development on SS before it disappeared (she's on MC v4).
I'm guessing that the engineers programmed 8 channels as the max because that was the max audio inputs off tape.

She's going to deal with it by manually syncing . . . but that sucks.
I was hoping for a miracle console command or hidden setting . . .

I do appreciate the help all.
Even with no solution it at least helps save a bit of my dwindling sanity ;)

Cheers,

John. I think that's ben's point. There are too many tracks to pull from than what scriptsync can deal with.

It's been a while since I've worked with script sync but isn't there a setting to determine the audio tracks it uses for indexing to the transcript of the script?  I don't recal multi groups having 14 tracks of audio.  Ours generally had 2 or 4 tracks that toggle with the sources or could be set to a main audio track regardless of the video selected.  I remember the AEs having to make some fake audio tracks so that all the sources in a multi group had the same number of audio tracks.  IIRC they added two extra tracks to 2 channel sources to match with the 4 channel dvcprHD sources.  They claimed mismatched source audio tracks created problems down the line but I don't know specifically what the issue was.  At any rate I wonder if choosing a static main audio source for the multi group or group would dictate the audio script sync would use?

Hey gang,

I have a friend on MC v4, trying to ScriptSync (phonetically) some GROUP CLIPS that have something like 14 tracks of audio. ScriptSync only looks at 8 tracks (AFAIK). Anyone have any ideas on workarounds or Console commands . . . or ceremonial dances?

We both thank you in advance.

Cheers,
