I posted about a similar problem in 8.3 several weeks ago:
Anyone have experience with Panasonic GH4 footage? I have a batch of 23.976 UHD/4K footage shot with this camera and when I AMA it into Media Composer, the clips come in with good audio but "wrong format" for picture (looks like the "media offline" title, only "wrong format").
This GH4 footage plays fine in Premiere Pro.
I subsequently discovered that GH4 footage shot as .MOV worked fine, but GH4 footage shot as MP4 gave me the "wrong format" problem. No one I talked to was able to answer this.
So maybe there is something finicky with the way 8.3 handles certain codec/wrapper combinations with AMA.
Don't know that this helps, but I feel your pain.
