I use a pair of KRK Rokit 6 and I think they sound great – never noticed any boominess in the bass. I think the bass sounds better than the old Yamaha NS-10's we have by our studio mixer. Of course I'm just a guy working in a church basement, but I do work with a lot of acoustic music and vocals. Handbells sound good too! I think the Rokit 6 are about $400/pair.
