The DX is still the best SD/HD video I/O for Avid. The difference between software versus hardware mode is almost negligible compared to Blackmagic, AJA and Matrox. It probably has a lot to do with Avid's Open IO API.

We have tried almost every AJA and Blackmagic I/O card out there. Nitris DX is still the best performing and most stable hardware for MC.

However, without 4K support, it is a product that will likely EOL this year (NAB?).

And with the Matrox, it always feel like they're one driver behind the current Media Composer version...

I've also looked into what Nitris DX does with the new HR rez, and (correct me if I'm wrong), it turns it into HD "on the fly". Which would be fine for me as 4K monitoring is still a couple of years away for most offline editors. Does it do a good job at that?

And last but not least... Since the equipment is in the room where I edit, how noisy is it?
