Open one of the ProRes proxy files in QuickTime player. Check its properties. Is the audio compressed? It's actually very possible to accidentally export with compressed audio (usually AAC), as under certain conditions, that ends up being the default setting. Several times I received Pro Res files that had issues with AMA, and that ended up being the problem.

Yes they play in QT. But Avid wants no part of the files. I have moved to Premiere as it takes anything easily. Just have to fumble through to hit deadline. I am converting a file in Voltaic to DnX just to see what happens but one file takes over an hour so no time to do 4.

Just as an FYI, 40GB of ProRes proxy is a lot of video: about 150 minutes of 1080p 23.98fps, or 120 minutes of 1080p 29.97fps.

I can't even load the AMA file into the source monitor. Just get spinning ball and eventually the error. Could all these files be corrupt? Could it be an issue with the drive they sent? Transferring a file to one of my drives for a test.

It's a problem you run into any time there's a perceived corruption in the source file. If you AMA the file, can you scrub through it in the viewer? All the way through without it throwing up an error? Open in QuickTime player - can you do the same? Does it stall at any point? If so, that is the answer to your issue.ProRes 4444 = ProRes 330
ProRes Proxy as mentioned before is just another variant of the same codec. On Fri, Jan 16, 2015 at 11:49 AM, Lou Wirth loutv@mindspring.com [Avid-L2] <Avid-L2@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Could really use a suggestion here. Im under a very fast turnaround and got the pro res proxy files yesterday late. 4 files at 40GB. I tried to AMA and transcode but keep getting same error. Exception: Failed to get the sample position from the AMA Plug-in.
I tried to import overnight but after 12 and a half hours I got one file. I need to start cutting today. Rebooted linked via AMA and tried to transcode just one file but got the same error. WTF?? Why am I getting this? I have never worked with ProRes proxy files so I'm not in my element here.
Any help would be appreciated greatly.
thanks
