While DF vs. NDF doesn't effect the audio sync etc... there can be some issues when multigrouping with mixed time codes. When production has mistakenly had some of our 10 cameras running drop frame instead of NDF which is our standard in the field some of the grouping Quick Key macros don't work correctly because when adding Aux time code it defaults to the time code base of the source and if that differs from the synced timeline audio base code which is NDF the Aux time code end up off. I'm told manually entering the appropriate ";" or """ into the Aux time code number will make it work but unfortunately that is not part of the AE's Quick Key macros. I would imagine that could be added into the Quick Key Script but our AE's didn't create the macros so they don't know how to do that. Just a little side note that might save someone a headache down the line.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Audio Timing Issues
So....
Here's my recording format:
Live Video into both machines:
Recording video and audio into Avid - Project Setting are 720P (Clips are: DVCProHD 59.54 / Audio 48 Bit Rate 16)
Recording audio into ProTools - Sync IO 29.97DF
Recording into P2 deck - timecode is being generated at this machine (720P 59.95
I'm trying to then bring back tweaked audio into media composer for the final edit, the problem is the the audio does not line up and seems to be gradually getting slower than the video.
The project length is approx 50 mins. On short form projects it would never be noticeable but it definitely is on the longer form.
I realize that I can just simple add a frame every so often but that just seems crazy when it all should line up.
What am I missing?
Dave
