[Avid-L2] Some tips (and a bit of shameless self promotion)

Some handy workflow stuff (that you probably all know, but I had forgotten
untill recently),
and a bit of shameless self promotion:

I'm currently editing a HUGE amount of lectures.
(some 36 hours of output.)

Now, I shot it myself and made notes during the shoot (on paper, no idea why
I did not use logging software),
as I had no intention to watch all of it myself a second time.

(People cough, make mistakes that need to be edited out, new chapter,
switching mistakes, l
avs that drop, the usual misery that need a bit of attention.)

Now for the tips & tricks:
In MC, I set the recorder side of the Composer window to Source TC
(click on the TC window, select "source, V1, TC1")
Now, i can use the GoTo function and jump directly to the TC i've noted,
without having to do math.
This even works if there are pieces cut out. (But of course you can only
jump to TC's that still exist in the timeline)
Brilliant!

After the basic editing is done, i export the sound as Wave, have my
LoudnessChange app. analyze the stuff,
and I get a marker list in return where the sounds needs attention.
(Sorry, export of markers is not yet public, nag me if you need it.)

From here the sequences get encoded and go to the client, who gives feedback
on more to cut out / alter.
This goes (like you probably get yourself)
"cut out words X to Y from 4.37 to 4.55"

Normally the trick is to work backwards in your sequence,
as otherwise the times won't correspond with the timeline anymore after
cutting stuff out/in.
But using the same trick, that's not needed!
Before your revision, create a mixdown of an empty soundtrack. (That's
lightning fast)
In the recorder side of the composer, now choose the TC of the mixdown.
(And have synclock on, or don't forget to include this track in your edit.)

This way, you keep track of all the notes in your timeline, no matter in
what order you work.

Last but not least, the notes from the client get in by mail. And to save
some trees,
I don't want to print out these notes, but want them onto my desktop.

Since I'm on Windows, I don't have stickies that float on top.
(For you Mac users, you can config Stickies on Mac to stay on top, very,
very handy for this work.)

So, I made a little thingy that does this on Windows as well:
