You actually hold the keys down until it cancels?

Three tests. Repeated attempts to cancel by typing Cmd+. fail. In all tests I pressed the keys many times over  a period of at least a minute without any response.

Then I held the keys down. In all three tests, the render cancelled after roughly ten seconds.

That is definitely not my prior experience.
