[Avid-L2] Cmd + . Cancel not working

In MC8.1 running on OSX10.9.5 the cancel command, "Cmd+." frequently does not work. Not simply slow, but never.

This is new to me and I'm seeing this on two systems with the same software combo. Anyone else seeing this? Any obvious fixes I should try?
