Re: [Avid-L2] ProResHQ Playback Stutter

Did these clips have a motion adapter on them? If so, your preference for motion effect renders might not be what is correct for the footage. For instance, if you have it set for Both Fields, in real time playback it might look great as Blended Interpolated but when you render, it will look stuttery.

Just a guess.

I've been troubleshooting the playback of ProResHQ files that will not playback smoothly. Strangely, I found that rendering the sequence (all clips have an effect applied) did not give me smooth playback. I tried both ProRes MXF and DNxHD 145. Both behaved only slightly better, which seemed odd to me.

So I transcoded everything instead, same resolution (ProRes) and now it plays smooth as a babies butt, unrendered.

Any ideas why the rendered version plays back poorly while the unrendered but transcoded sequence does not?

Possibly related, Activity Monitor shows AvidBinIndexer, AvidSearch, and sometimes Quicktime_OPServer as "not responding."
