Interplay Sphere allows you to upload your *local* full-rez media to
the central server (full clips or partial). I would imagine that
functionality carries forward into the new, re-branded Media Composer
Cloud. Some sort of WAN acceleration (Signiant, Aspera, etc...) is the
way to speed up your upload from Alabama to your mothership, wherever
that may be.
Here in broadcast news, I can see this as a good solution for field
editing with a mix of field-acquired footage and existing material
which resides here in the broadcast center. Or else, for sharing
material from a bureau to the broadcast center. The trick is getting
the full rez footage back to ISIS/Interplay. There's nothing Avid (or
Adobe, etc...) can do about the WiFi speed in your hotel.
