But surely we will benefit from it in the long run? I'd be happy to see Avid make some more cash, that's more money for development further down the line isn't it? And more stability for Avid as a company?

Well, with the cloud editing, there's also something that's actually BETTER than fast export of review files, so that's done. But I understand where you're going with your questions. Avid clearly has a business model that they feel will get them the most cash and profit. You and I may not be part of that model.
