A quick look over the pic Bruno kindly sent, 
I notice that there is a JOURNAL folder and an INDEX.IMF file . . .
Neither of which the client sent me.
So far it does seem like folder structure is the culprit.
I'll keep you all posted (no pun intended).

If you have transferred this data onto a hard disk you need to put this whole structure into a folder (say, Card 1). To AMA these into Avid, just select 'Link to AMA volume' and select the 'Card 1' folder. Avid will do the rest.
Notice the index file and other ancillary files. These need to be there for the AMA volume linking to work properly, so don't let anyone touch the file structure from the card or omit some files.
