If a codec makes my system feel sluggish, that's sufficient reason for me to transcode. YMMV.

XDcam codecs are taxing on the CPU- depending in the power of your computer, playback can be a little 'clunky,' especially jogging or dragging through media. Generally, it's not worth the time and storage space to transcode, but don't be surprised if ryour system feels sluggish with XDcam codecs.
