[Avid-L2] Re: HD to SD converter

I've had several issues with unterminated HDSDI. The 2 sdi inputs on the common JVC DTV LED monitors only terminate the active input. When I've looped the inputs through a scope and then terminate at the monitor I can only properly scope the active input. Usually input 1/A is the NLE output and 2/B is Record VTR back. If I set the scope to A and but the monitor on input 2 the A loop is unterminated and the scope goes nuts. My solution has been 2 DAs so I don't have to loop.

I also tried once to take a little bnc rotary switch box from Fry's and use it to A B switch between the HDSDI output of a classic Nitris with it's SDSDI output. It didn't work at all even the SDSDI was twitchy beyond belief. Perhaps different output chip sets have more tolerance but in Avid world I would have never thought about a T bnc. Maybe double terminating has less ramifications than unterminating.

Time for me to go solder some 600 ohm termination resistors into the XLR audio inputs on my VTR 2B. ;-)
