[Avid-L2] Re: Great tutorial from Boris!

I have worked with a very talented offline editor who was a big user of Boris Red which later became AvidFx. I had a few issues with compatibility with Avx 1 and Avx 1.5 effects untill I loaded all the possible avx options when installing Boris Red. This was about 10 years ago. With Avid FX I doubt those kind of issues arise now but I haven't received any project using it since then.

The same editor was forces to stop using the Boris Red many years ago when they started doing HD projects. He told me the online folks said things weren't translating right to the online sequence. I never got any specifics as to what the actual problems were but it sounded like improper scaling or positioning. Kind of like the legacy 16x9 vs. 4x3 titles that would sometimes just aspect wrong when coming to online etc... I don't know if any of these concerns are even valid today but I remember scratching my head when I heard the story.

I have also purchased some nice glow/blur effects that are really nice. Avid FX is definitely a great tool. Takes a little learning curve (if you've never used Boris RED or BORIS FX, but it's well worth it, and as you point out, it's an incredibly powerful addition to Avid. I'm one of the people that regularly complains about the effects capability of Avid, but Avid FX definitely amps that up by a huge margin.
