I think this is a concrete explanation. I found it on their 2014 Avid Connect website.
- Free NAB Exhibits Pass ($150 value)
- Annual ACA Membership Included ($100 value)
- Free IBC Pass ($150 value)
- Free passes to numerous other trade shows world wide
- Avid Webstore discount
The concrete could use some more rebar in the form of specifics. Free passes to "numerous other trade shows worldwide" is ambiguous. For me, the only other trade shows this has value for are DV Expo East, CCW, and AES. If free passes to those shows are not included, then this loses its appeal. Considering that it hasn't been difficult for me to obtain free passes for NAB, DV Expo East, CCW, or AES, this is also not a great way to sell me on the cost of 2014 Avid Connect. Unless the trade shows I mentioned earlier are making it more difficult to get a free pass, I don't see this as a value point.
The free IBC pass does me no good, as I have not attended that trade show and have no compelling reason to do so. Maybe Avid should only offer the free IBC pass to those who have attended IBC in the past? This may be difficult to determine, though I think it would be better to put the money used to buy these free passes in Avid's bank account than it would be to give out a bunch of free passes to IBC that will go unused. Unless the IBC trade show is making it more difficult to get a free pass, I don't see this as a value point.
The bottom of the list reads "Avid Webstore discount". How much of a discount? $300? If I can buy a dongle on the Avid Webstore, and they are offering a $300 Avid Webstore discount, and I can use that discount towards the purchase of a dongle, then I'm in. The fact that Avid charges $300 for a dongle is absurd, but I digress, if only slightly. Getting a dongle for free (before shipping) would make $300 for acting now worth it. Maybe Avid should send this email to everyone who has been using software activation? "Join the ACA at 2014 Avid Connect and convert your license to a dongle for free!"
Now let's focus on the event. I am reviewing the agenda, and unless you are a Council Member or have been invited to the "Executive Strategy Session Lunch", then I think you will miss out on the best events of Friday. Saturday has the most potential. The Sunday speaker, slated for after the "Bloody Mary" Breakfast (Recover from Saturday night's Beyond Everywhere Gala), may be interesting if you have recovered in time to listen.
For the record, "cancellations received in writing on or before February 4, 2014 will receive a full refund. Cancellations received in writing between February 5 and February 28, 2014 will receive a full refund minus an administrative charge of $100. Refunds will not be granted after March 1, 2014."
As for the idea of processing this through the Google Translation app for "meaningless marketing copy", did anyone read white paper for Avid Everywhere? Skip to page 8 since the first seven pages are buzzwords used by M.B.A.'s and PR people.

I saw it. I don't think they made a very compelling case for laying out $500 (or $300 if you "ACT NOW!").
There's very little concrete explanation of what you get for your money. "Free" tickets to NAB is not really going to do it for most of us, and who is providing the "essential strategic leadership?" If someone can run the copy below through the Google Translation app for "meaningless marketing copy" I'd love to know what it means.
