Ironically I came at it the reverse direction from a big one inch online
suite to a Quantel Harry. Our big problem was the Harry didn't even read
EDLs. The first year or so we eye matched everything which made clients
pretty stressed after a decade of CMX autoconforms.
Then we worked out a way to use Harry clip management to get the
timecode for each clip and then 'restore' an archive from the telecine
dump tape, sure we had to mentallt add the duration of dissolves to out
point as we retyped the EDLs into clip management, then load the clips
one by one in reverse order to the desktop and joing them together
manually, remembering to create dissolves as we went... luckily only
having 80 seconds of storage meant we only did TVCs.
But for a good 2 years we had the only digital online suites in the
world. Then the Kadenza and A-84 came out and online gave us a run for
our money until the Henry and then Flame sealed the deal forever on
linear online.
