I'm working double shifts this entire week so I'm semi brain dead right now and might be misinterpreting everything that I'm reading right now.  My eyes start to water when I try to do my Nuke tutorials while dealing with learning Linux.

If you right-click the keyframe tracks in the effect editor, you can select "Add Start and End Keyframes" which seems to do what you're talking about.

When they threw out those keyframes (to save RAM usage as I understand it), they created this new condition which you don't like (and I) don't like. I think they believed everyone would rather work in the advanced keyframe editor which is a PITA for simple repos, pushes, etc.
